The Front Door

A while ago a man came by and offered us $50.00 for our front door! Another man stopped and told us that he would install a new "up to date" steel door for us, in exchange for our door. Funny guys!
We've been sanding, staining and restoring the door. Oops, I see the stain on the window. Gotta go get that off. Some think the door should be painted. Others think not to paint it. The wood matches our woodwork inside the house. What do you think?

Happy thinking! I'm off to clean the window!

Love, Rachel

Oh, my goodness! I would never cover up that beautiful wood no matter what! It's so gorgeous.
However, to each his own. : )

The door is gorgeous! Leave it exactly as it is! The lace curtain and pretty wreath add even more character to its beauty. And, it goes perfectly with your home!

I think I'm in love with that door--that's what I think, and you should NOT sell it nor paint it.... it's beautiful, romantic and just perfect the way it is! I'm sure I would not pass by it without noticing it; it attracts, it has some certain charm to it that takes me back to some lovely era...

And by the way: Love that lacey curtain too! :)

Looks like the 'painters' were by far outnumbered! My vote is with the 'non-painters!'

Have a fun day!

I dunno... I think the up-to-date steel door would have gone nicely with the "modern" siding you just stripped off. Do you really want your house looking so out-dated? Oh! You do? Well! Think of that! What funny tastes you have!

(You know I'm only kidding!)

Good Morning Rachel,
I adore your door! The detail is just lovely, no wonder those two men were trying to get it!!! Oh those men and the wood gene, it pops up when you are least expecting it, they even come to your door now! Imagine that!

If you decide to paint it, I would go with a punchy fun color, seeing as your house is in the Victorian style! You could use a really fun accent color, then keep the inside of the door wood to match your wood work...this would take care of matching the exterior and interior decor!!!

You need to stand back from the house and take a picture and then put up a colored board over the door, you don't have to commit till you see what you think...

Hope you are doing well today, I have been with you in spirit this past 7 days, you know what I mean by that!! :) I will try to get an email off today to you, I have a garage sale to do tomorrow, so kinda up to my eyeballs with that mess...

XXOO,
Donna Lynn

Your door is BEAUTIFUL! I love the wood. Leaving it's original finish allows the craftsmanship of the maker show. It's beautiful for your home!

Please leave it as is. It is beautiful in it's natural state.
And those guys can find a door like that on their own.
Replace that lovely door with a steel door, their out of their minds. They see a treasure and what it for themselves. And $50.00 isn't enough. $1000.00 maybe. But I would not sell or replace that beauty.

Ok, now I am off my band wagon.

Ciao

I'm with the majority...I love it as is...but I hate to paint LOL.
Even if everyone would have said to paint it, I would disagree.
I think furniture/woods retains their true charactar when left as is.
Don't get me wrong...I love painted furniture too but chippy old things really capture my interest.
I know you will do what makes YOU happy :0)

Fifty WHOLE dollars? You mean you turned that down? Just so you could keep that old door and not get an ugly er, updated new metal one? Why ever did you not accept it? I agree that it needs to NOT be painted.

Have an inspiring day!

HI RACHEL, YOUR DOOR IS SO NICE. PLEASE DONT PAINT IT. THAT DOOR WOULD COST A LOT OF MONEY TO REPLACE. IT IS SO RIGHT FOR YOUR LOVELY HOME. YOU ARE BLESSED TO HAVE THAT HOUSE AND MORE BLESSED FOR YOUR HOME. ENJOY. KEITH

What a gorgeous door! Doesn't it make you mad that there are people out there trying to scam people into giving up a treasure for nothing! They were hoping that you didn't know what you had! Your wreath is beautiful!

That is SO funny about the two offers! You must have a pretty fabulous door! I don't know if you should leave it out there! You might wake up to find it ripped right off the hinges and gone one day. LOL!

Never sell your door! Haha! I am usually a fan of painting but that door is so gorgeous as is...and if it matches the rest of your woodwork...I would definitely leave it! Stunning!
