Healthy Living

About 9 years ago, through a series of events, I quit drinking AS MUCH (key words there) pop. Now I don't know if that is a grammatically correct way to say it or not, but I just quit "living on" Dr. Pepper, and Pepsi. Don't know why...I just loved the stuff. But I realized that it was not good for me and cut WAY back...sometimes not drinking any for extended periods, other times drinking very little. Around here, many times days are measured in how many days it's been since drinking pop.

During the season of lent the "thing" my sons and I would generally give up?...yep, pop! Pop that's what we call it in our family. It's never been an issue with Mr. Romantic Porch. He can take it or leave it. But I crave it! Unless we are entertaining guests, I don't buy it anymore for our home. If we have it we have to go somewhere to get it. That way it is an effort to indulge!

I'm so proud! Both of our sons early this year quit drinking pop. All on their own they started drinking water. One son does have it occasionally, but the other one is drinking exclusively water. We never told them to do such a thing. We've just tried across these 9 years or so to make healthy choices, and it is so neat to see them grasp the concept too.

OK, so now you know way more about us than you asked for, but there it is...today's healthy living posting!
Love, Rachel

I'm so proud of you for the wise choices you've made! Your family will learn so many things from you - and one of them is the importance of making wise choices! You're a good mom! And they're great kids!

I hope you have a wonderful day!

Love, Esther

Rachel -
Everything you can do to be more healthy is a good thing - baby steps!
I stopped drinking pop about four years ago and do not miss it at all. I usually don't go too far without my bottle of water, though.
It's great that your boys are making healthier choices. My children, too, are looking at their food choices a little differently these days. We went to Trader Joe's last night and both kids went wild with all the healthy choices available - organic, fresh, etc!

P.S. that first comment today is definitely SPAM - you might want to delete that.

I need to stop drinking Caffinee. I somehow got hooked on Coffee last year, and if I don't have it, I am irritable and get headaches. I switched over to to tea, but I am drinking it like I should be water.

We can't really afford to buy "pop" (which my DH used to call it) unless it is a special ocassion, so I am not hooked on that. But coffee! Oh man!

We call it pop too! And I have cut way back too. I try to have 1 can a week and only once and awhile will I order it at a restaurant. My daughter will still drink a can a day...sometimes she does really good and stops completely. Her boyfriend stopped drinking it a few years ago. We are trying to make healthier choices. Glad you all are too!
Have a great day!

YOU have been a good role model for your boys with your healthy choices! I DO believe that drinking water is so good for you! We do drink tea but very little pop. You are an inspiration...

That is a great choice to make. So many people do not realize just how much sugar is in one can of soda. We call it soda out here *LOL.
I think I've just fallen in love with that sweet, little ferret. I'd love one but I don't think my dogs would take kindly to one.
Rain? What's rain? Wish we had some...send it this way :0)

I need to do that my self... I love coke! :) Good for you, Rachel! Your post reminded me of something Jesus said: "He who rules his spirit has won a greater victory than the taking of a city". Isn't that wonderful!

Wishing you the sweetest day!

Hi dearest Rachel!
I am so darn proud of you and your boys! I have never been a pop drinker, but my mom is, it has ruined her bones, and caused her sooo many health problems! Stay away from any carbonated beverages, there is a chemical that robs your body of calcium in them!

I have been so busy with the wedding, we go tomorrow and get the flowers all picked out, I am in charge of the decorating and the bridal flowers, so I have only 4 weeks left to tie up all the loose ends! YIKES!!! We had a beautiful bridal shower on Sunday, my new DIL is such a delight, so beautiful inside and out!

Please keep us all in your prayers, you are on my heart and in mine!
XO,
DL

Rachel, that is awesome. Last year when I was doing WW I was drinking water all the time and when you hydrate yourself with water all day you really don't crave anything else. You have given me incentive to get off the diet Dr. Pepper.
Hugs,
LeAnn:)

that's great, Rachel! I rarely ever drink pop anymore, although it's not so much by choice as a "consequence" of nursing. now I don't drink it too often, but sometimes crave it. Ben stopped drinking regular pop and has lost some weight for sure.

glad your boys picked up on the habit...or rather broke the habit. whichever way you phrase it, good for your family! :)

Good job Rachel. I need to cut back on coffee, and have the kids cut back on pop. Water is so important. Good for you and shame on me, but I will make some changes. Hugs, Kathi
