Does This Surprise You?

Would it surprise you if I told you I've never been to Australia? Probably not! I haven't been able to get my mind off of the fires and floods the Australian people have endured recently. Water and fire are two of life's essentials, but oh how devastating they can be when out of control. I see my Australian blogger friends living though this and I am sad. I do not like to see anyone endure hardship.
It is so amazing to "cyber meet" people from all over the world. For several months now a new friend named Sue and I have been emailing each other. (Hi Sue!) She has never actually commented on my blog, but she sent me an email and told me she thought she might know me. How neat it was that somehow she'd run across my blog. What a small world. Her nephew and I were classmates in Mountainburg, Arkansas USA...all. twelve. years! Yes, first through twelfth grade we were in the same class.

So from Australia to Arkansas or anywhere in between I want to say you're in my thoughts today. Does this surprise you?

Love, Rachel

It seems there is so much to pull at our heart strings..but it always touches me when someone mentions it and gives words of concern and comfort. I...think it restores my faith in human nature.
For all the people who DON'T care, there are many, many more who DO!
Rachel...you are one of those who care..and let it be known.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts on this tradgedy.

I feel the same way, my heart breaks for the Australian people. I have been blogging with some of them, and they are a brave lot.
One of them was sad at the thought of having to give up her flower garden due to the drought. If only we could send her water.

The fires and floods have had a devastating affect on so many Australians. So many people here(Australia) are helping the victims of both the floods and fires. So far 201 people have lost their lives in the fires here in Victoria. So sad.
Blogland is amazing. How incredible that you and Sue's nephew went through school together.
Thank you for your kind words for what our country is going through

I "met" someone through my blog as well that is from Australia that knows someone I know in "real life", lol!

Infact, she knew about three people I knew in real life.

It truly is a "small" world, or maybe it's just divine Providence? ;-)

Hi Rachel~- It doesn't surprise me- the blogging community has such a connectedness about it that nothing with it surprises me at all. It's helping to bring the world closer to each other. Isn't it great?

I'm also saddened by what has happened to the wonderful people of Australia. Blogging lets us be closer and know so many different people. We are so far away but we can reach out with our prayers and encouragement.
